Early
childhood is a time when play is the
child’s work. Our program is based on this philosophy and
is designed to encourage each child to grow as a whole
human being with balanced capacities to think, to feel, and
to do.
Waldorf
education draws from a rich base of
knowledge of child development. We offer children
experiences that help prepare them for life as well as for
future academic learning. Rather than facts and figures, we
provide a foundation for learning, in the form of: a longer
attention span, by actively engaging in the inner process
of creating images through play and storytelling; a fuller
understanding of abstract concepts, gained by interaction
with the natural world, rather than by rote learning; a
love of learning, stimulated by the knowledge gained from
imagining and doing; self-esteem and emotional maturity to
form healthy relationships throughout life; a capacity for
creative thinking which is the root of all true learning
and problem-solving.
Children live and breathe in their
imaginations. They touch the world through their work of
building, cooking, sewing, crafts, gardening and cleaning.
These opportunities allow them to blossom in the rhythm of
their growing body, the family, the community, nature and
its seasons.
